A communal kitchen, wifi and nice common areas were also available and we only paid $35 per night with AC. It was actually cheaper than the hostel and was so much nicer we had a room with 2 beds, a fridge, cable TV and private bathroom. We dropped our bags and went outside both looking at each other thinking “no f-ing way” so we went and had a look around and found a better place which was literally right across the road called Tsunami Cabinas. They had an old homeless looking rasta dude in the kitchen touching dishes and we couldn't get out of there faster. Arriving I knew it looked dodgy so was already apprehensive about having booked a week, we went in and the place was filthy it is the only hostel on the beach but it was so dodgy our door didn't even have a lock and the common areas, bedrooms and kitchen were all filthy. We stayed a week in Tamarindo, after the Aussie boys we met told us to stay at the beach hut hostel we got dropped straight there and had pre-booked here for a week. We didn't love it here, like Jaco we didn't really feel like the touristy coastal towns offered any authenticity or culture it was just another beach town. After Tamarindo appeared in the endless summer 2 movie it apparently became super popular with the Americans and is now very commercialised. Tamarindo is affectionately known as tama”gringo” because it is so Americanised. Tamarindo is on the North pacific coast of Costa Rica and is our final stop before we head to Nicaragua.
